With 14+ years doing big bank transformation, he pioneers a bilingual Māori/English payment gateway, advocating for tech representation and equity, steeped in his Māori heritage.

Adrianne is Chief Underwriter for Suncorp New Zealand's Life Insurance business offering products under the intermediated Asteron Life brand and the direct to consumer AA Life channel.

Having started her career in the New Zealand Life Insurance industry in 2006, Adrianne has 17 years' experience in underwriting, operations and management.

During her 14-year tenure with Asteron Life, Adrianne has overseen all aspects of the Life Underwriting function, and as Chief Underwriter for the last 6 years has also lead her own highly specialised Technical Underwriting team.

With a passion for improvement and growth Adrianne is responsible for creating, maintaining, and driving upgrades to underwriting strategy design and philosophy, from underwriting rule design through to claim outcomes, across multiple distribution channels.

Alissa Holz is Senior Vice President, Deputy CEO, Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), for RGA Reinsurance Australia (RGAA). Appointed to the role in April 2024, Alissa leads business strategy execution and business development initiatives throughout the ANZ markets. She oversees Business Development, Pricing, Underwriting, Technical, and Claims for RGA’s ANZ operations.

With over 25 years of experience in the life insurance industry, Alissa brings a wealth of client experience and market knowledge to her role and a proven track record of leadership within RGA.

Alissa joined RGA in 2006 and has held a number of roles across both Australian and Asian markets. She served as the Head of Business Development, ANZ, from 2018 to 2024 and previously helped lead the growth of Asian markets in her role as Chief Pricing Actuary for Asian Markets from 2012 to 2018.

Prior to working at RGA, Alissa served in various actuarial pricing and valuation roles handling product development, capital management and experience analyses, among other duties. Alissa received her Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Mathematics from the Queensland University of Technology and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD).

Dr. Amelia Sharman is Director Sustainability Reporting at the External Reporting Board (XRB), responsible for managing the execution and coordination of the climate-related disclosure framework for Aotearoa New Zealand, as well as the XRB’s wider sustainability reporting work programme.

She has an extensive background in climate and sustainability policy areas, most recently as Head of Policy at Ara Ake, focused on supporting the transition to a low-emissions energy future. She has held a range of project and policy roles across the public and private sectors in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She has a PhD from the London School of Economics, an MSc from the University of Oxford, and an MA(Hons) from the University of Auckland.

Amber is a 1st year undergraduate at the University of Auckland. She is studying the Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Finance.

As CEO, Ana-Marie is responsible for directing and executing the company’s organisational strategy.

Ana brings over 25 years of broad banking and financial services experience, including a decade in the local and global Wealth teams at ANZ bank. At ANZ, Ana had a number of strategic and executive roles across insurance and investments, including executive responsibility for New Zealand’s largest KiwiSaver Scheme and accountability for strategic decisions and performance of the wealth product suite. She also spent a further 10 years in commercial and product functions at Henderson Global Investors in London. Ana has held governance roles for Pie Funds, ANZ Samoa and the Financial Service Council, and most recently was CEO of AA Money.

Ana is passionate about financial literacy, savings and retirement outcomes for New Zealanders and diversity in the financial services industry.

Hon. Andrew Bayly is a businessman, adventurer, and politician. He is the Member of Parliament for Port Waikato and the Minister of Commerce & Consumer Affairs, Minister for Small Business & Manufacturing, and Minister of Statistics in the National-led Coalition Government. Andrew was first elected to Parliament at the 2014 general election.

In his professional life prior to Parliament, Andrew qualified as a chartered accountant. He has been a merchant banker and a former officer in the New Zealand Army Territorials, and also served in the British Parachute Regiment. He is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society of London. Andrew comes from a farming background and grew up in Whanganui.

Andrew Inwood is the Founder and Principal of CoreData and has more than 30 years’ experience in the Australian financial services industry. He started his career at Rothschild Australia Asset Management where he headed the marketing team, before moving to AMP Investments where he spent more than a decade. During his time at AMP, he was seconded to Virgin Direct in the UK to help establish the finance and investment arm of the group.

Andrew returned to Australia to be marketing director of Wizard Home Loans. From Wizard he moved to Telstra where he spent three years as general manager of applications and hosted services, before leaving to start CoreData. In the past 20 years, CoreData has expanded out of Sydney to have offices in Perth, London, Boston and Manila.

Andrew is the author of more than 50 pieces of significant research into clients and their behaviour and has a particular focus on the value of the client experience in financial services. He is a highly regarded speaker and has delivered keynote speeches in every Australian capital city, London, Edinburgh, New York, Tokyo, Queenstown, Monaco and Berlin.

Andrew has served on a number of charity and sporting club boards and been a seed investor in and director of a number of start-up businesses, particularly in the online sector, a practice which he continues to this day.

He has a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney ASIA.

Angus Dale-Jones is part-time Executive Director of the Corporate Trustees Association and chairs the Financial Advice Code Committee. He runs Knax Consulting Limited, consulting on financial conduct, regulation and climate. He was educated in Zimbabwe and South Africa, qualified as a Chartered Accountant, and holds a Master’s degree in Business and Technology from the University of New South Wales.

In Australia, Angus worked with ASIC as a financial services regulator for 17 years including four years as West Australian Regional Commissioner.

In New Zealand he spent three years at the then Securities Commission (now FMA) as director responsible for the implementation of the Financial Advisers Act. He served as an independent board member of the Professional Advisers Association (now financialadvice.nz) from 2012-16.

Andrew Jamieson jointly leads PwC's Sustainability Climate and Nature practice in New Zealand with a focus on ESG Strategy and governance.

He has a background in Environmental Economics and has worked in organisational strategy, operating model design and change for over 20 years in New Zealand and abroad including the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

His sector experience includes financial services, public sector, charitable foundations, telcos, utilities, broadcast, health and digital technology.

Professor Andrew Shelling is Associate Dean (Research) at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, and co-Director for the Centre for Cancer Research at the University of Auckland. His research is primarily interested in understanding the molecular changes that occur during the development of genetic disorders, focusing on breast and gynaecological cancer, and reproductive disorders.

Andrew began at Otago University with a degree in Physical Education and PhD in Biochemistry. He spent three years in Oxford, UK, as a Nuffield Medical Fellow, studying the genetics of ovarian cancer, before being appointed to Auckland University as a Lecturer in 1996, eventually becoming Professor in 2015.

Andrew has served as Deputy Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (2001-2013), President of the New Zealand branch of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (2002-2004), Deputy-Chairperson of the Advisory Committee for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (2006-2012), Director of the Bachelor of Medical Sciences Honours programme (2008-2016) and as Associate Editor for the Human Reproduction journal (2004-2013). He is currently on the Editorial Board for the Human Reproduction Update and Clinical Genetics journals, on the Board of Breast Cancer Cure and Trustee for the Nurture Foundation for Reproductive Research.

Andrew is NIWA’s Chief Scientist for Climate, Atmosphere and Hazards. He specializes in applications of climate data and products, and climate change impacts and adaptation research.

Andrew studied Climatology at the University of Otago and undertook a PhD at the University of Colorado, USA studying the utility of satellite data for snow studies. He returned to New Zealand in 2000 to work for NIWA, where he has been ever since.

Andrew has led research programmes on climate change impacts and implications and the development of an urban impacts toolkit. He was a lead author of the Australasia chapter of the IPCC Fifth Assessment WGII Report. He has also been seconded to the Ministry for Primary Industries to work on the Primary Sector Science Roadmap and to the Department of Conservation to build internal capacity around the utilisation of climate data and climate change projections.

Anna Livesey is Head of Customer Experience and Design at ANZ New Zealand. She has previously held Head of Product roles in KiwiSaver and Investments at Westpac and AMP. In a previous life Anna worked in corporate strategy, technology policy and as a consultant.

Born and bred in Wellington, she has also lived in Beijing, New York, Iowa and Dunedin, and currently lives in Tamaki Makaurau. Her passion is using insight and design to support customers to make the best financial choices they can.

Anna joined NZX in September 2023 as the CEO of Smartshares. Before joining NZX, Anna has held management roles in New Zealand and London at Hobson Wealth and JPMorgan as well as New Zealand directorships in financial service firms.

Anna brings expertise in strategic development, leadership, operational & technology synergies & corporate governance and holds a BE(Hons) in Engineering Science from Auckland University.

Arishma Singh is an Adviser Partner Manager at nib and has worked in insurance for over a decade focusing on building strategic partnerships with financial advisers and getting them to have more conversations about the importance and impact of health insurance.

Blake became CEO of the Financial Services Council Australia in January 2022 after re-joining the FSC as Deputy CEO in 2020, where he was responsible for policy and advocacy on behalf of FSC members.

Blake has extensive experience as an advocate for the financial services industry. Blake has previously worked for Westpac Group, as Head of Government Affairs for Wealth, and at the FSC as Senior Policy Manager for Superannuation. Blake has also worked as a policy adviser and industrial advocate for the Commonwealth Government and the NSW Business Chamber.

Blake is also a member of the Board of Advice for the University of Sydney Business School's Discipline of Work and Organisational Studies. Blake holds a Juris Doctor from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor in Commerce (liberal studies) from the University of Sydney.

When it comes to mixing insurance with technology, Bronwyn’s been there, done that.

Following a stellar career spanning financial advice, distribution and strategy roles in New Zealand, the UK and Australia (not to mention her time leading a disruptive digital insurer) Bronwyn returned to New Zealand in August 2021 to head up the newly created sales and service function for Fidelity Life. In 2024 this evolved to the Chief Commercial Officer position responsible for customer acquisition, distribution strategy and channel performance, product and pricing, and marketing.

Chris is the Head of Multi Asset and Global Investments at Harbour. In this role, he is responsible for managing multi-asset portfolios for large institutional investors and the Harbour Active Growth Fund, utilising Harbour’s own strategies as well as external strategies from around the world. Chris built and launched NZ’s first diversified multi-sector Impact Fund, targeting investments that provide financial return as well as helping meet UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Chris joined Harbour from Mercer, where he was most recently a Portfolio Manager, responsible for growth assets within Mercer’s fund suite in New Zealand. He has a strong track record in investment manager research, dynamic asset allocation, and structuring investment portfolios for some of New Zealand’s largest institutional investors. Chris has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Victoria University, Wellington, and has obtained the CFA® designation.

Christina is a Director in Deloitte New Zealand’s Strategy and Business Design Consulting practice, and has an extensive Strategy Consulting experience at Deloitte New Zealand, working with some of the most iconic businesses in New Zealand and globally.

Clare is leading the implementation of the new conduct regime for banks, insurers and non-bank deposit takers at the Financial Markets Authority.

Clare previously worked for the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK for almost 20 years in a variety of policy, change implementation and supervision roles, including oversight of large banking groups and financial advisers. She also spent two years at the UK Treasury, leading capital markets and prudential policy.

Colin is Executive Director of Digital Identity New Zealand (DINZ), recognised as the foremost voice for Digital Identity in NZ and Aotearoa’s only industry association dedicated to accelerating adoption of digital identification for better outcomes for people. Building on 18 years of contribution to international standards and consortia, in both public and private sector roles, Colin has amassed a treasure-trove of knowledge on comparative digital identity policy and practice across the globe.

After 5+ years in the UK leading the international industry consortium Kantara and returning to New Zealand, serendipity played its part as he stepped into the role of leading the local industry association in late 2021. Well connected and highly respected in industry and standards consortia over many years, Colin was named in One World Identity's Top 100 Influencers in Identity in 2018.

Damien is originally from Northern Ireland and is an ex-banker, Corporate Structured Finance & Family Office Adviser & Independent Company Director. He has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). He has worked in Britain, Australia and New Zealand over the past 25 years.

Daniel Street is DLA Piper International's co-lead for Disclosure, Reporting & Marketing and ESG Lead for New Zealand. He advises New Zealand and international clients on commercial disputes and regulatory matters, with a particular focus on banking and financial services.

In particular, Daniel helps clients with climate litigation risk, sustainability reporting, emissions target-setting and green claims.

David has over twenty years' experience in the global financial services sector, growing businesses, creating and developing teams, and driving strategic development through research, data and technology. A keen collaborator, he delivers value through working with diverse stakeholder groups including government, regulators, communities and industry to achieve mutually beneficial goals.

David is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, is a Master of Strategic Marketing, a Master of Wine Science and a budding viticulturist and winemaker in his spare time.

David joined Public Trust as Chief Risk Officer in September 2019, before taking over as the General Manager of our Corporate Trustee Services team in 2022. David has previously been Chief Risk Officer at Tower for more than 3 years, where his team oversaw risk, compliance, legal and governance for the Tower group.

Prior to this, he was Chief Risk Officer at RACQ Insurance in Australia. He also spent 4 years at PwC in Australia and London and worked for the Citibank-State Street joint venture CitiStreet Australia for 6 years prior to that. David brings a wealth of energy and expertise to the team.

David is a partner in Dentons Kensington Swan's banking and financial markets team, which is top ranked for its financial services specialty by Chambers Asia Pacific legal directory, with David also top ranked. He chaired the Code Committee appointed by the FMA under the Financial Advisers Act until its repeal in March 2021, and is a former chair of Workplace Savings NZ.

David is an expert in the regulation of financial services. He helps the providers of financial products and services understand and manage their obligations in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. He also helps them identify and benefit from the opportunities presented by regulatory reforms.

David has been at the forefront of the extensive regulatory reforms impacting on the provision of financial advice services. His reputation in this area of law was formally recognised in 2009 through his appointment to the Financial Advisers Code Committee, a professional conduct rule making body David chaired from 2012 to 2021. David’s expertise includes advising on agency relationships and financial advice provider disclosure and conduct obligations, and assisting clients develop effective business models for delivering financial advice.

David advises both large and boutique providers of investment funds, as well as insurers, trustees of workplace schemes, providers of discretionary investment management services (DIMS) and investment platforms. He assists reporting entities with their AML and CRS obligations, and has been heavily involved in recent years in assisting a number of banks and insurers and financial advice providers with conduct and culture initiatives and licensing readiness. He has extensive experience in advising on cross-border offers of financial products and services, assisting a wide range of offshore providers manage their New Zealand financial services regulatory footprint.

With experience in governance from UK, Australia, and NZ, David has served on several private company Boards across various sectors. He has also held senior management positions in these jurisdictions and brings C-Suite and director experience.

Currently, David chairs a Tier 1 private education provider, a rapidly growing mortgage aggregator business, and a specialist lines insurance company. He has recently stepped down from chairing the Board of a large national financial planning group and also from the Deputy Chair role at one of NZ’s largest community trusts in the not-for-profit sector.

David has a post-graduate Master’s degree in Management from Massey university and a post-graduate qualification in Corporate Governance from Waikato University. He is a fellow of Chartered Governance NZ and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Donna Robinson, Waikato-Tainui, Raukawa, Ngapuhi, is the Māori Lead, responsible for implementing the strategic direction of Māori development initiatives, giving impact to improved outcomes for Māori, and delivery of Te whai hua – kia ora – Sorted in Schools a financial capability programme designed by Māori for kura reo Māori.

Fay Sowerby with an industrial psychology background, had a career spanning over 20 years as a business consultant. During that time while working at KPMG, KPMG Consulting and her own consulting business, Fay played a pivotal role in global and local projects, operationalising change including the implementation of new technologies across several industries. She has served on the board of a sports organisation, three educational organisations, a crown owned entity, three NGO’s and three national committees.

In 2009, when a young family member was diagnosed with cancer, Fay joined Breast Cancer Cure (BCC), an organisation dedicated to finding a Cure for breast cancer through novel research. BCC has funded $11.5M of research. Fay has learned the central role that genomics and molecular targets play in improving health outcomes.

Fay was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and since 2015, has been an active member of Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition (BCAC), holding the position of Secretary. BCAC is a patient-based organization that strives to support, represent, and inform patient groups.

Fay's advocates for research and system changes for greater precision in prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment for those at risk of or diagnosed with breast cancer including establishing pathways and funding for molecular and genomic testing. She has an unwavering commitment to equity and enhancing the quality of life for New Zealanders affected by cancer.

Hon. Grant Robertson studied politics at Otago, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in 1995. At university he was the President of the Otago University Students’ Association and became Co-President of the New Zealand University Students Association.

Jarrod Kerr is Kiwibank’s Chief Economist. Jarrod has a passion for the environment, financial markets, and everything economics. Although born and schooled in New Zealand, he cut his teeth in US, Swiss, and Australian banks, and has spent most of his career overseas. Jarrod started off as an economist at JP Morgan in Sydney.

He then moved into financial markets as an interest rate strategist for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, before moving to Credit Suisse in Singapore as Head of Australian and New Zealand fixed income and economic research. After 16 years abroad, Jarrod returned home to the mighty Kiwibank in 2018.

Lee-Ann is the vice-President of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries (NZSA) and will become President in November 2024.

Lee McCauley is the founder and director of specialist behavioural insights firm Tick Consulting. He brings over a decade of experience working with organisations across the public and private sector to apply behavioural science.

This includes a report for the Financial Markets Authority on Kiwisaver switching behaviour due to COVID-19. Lee previously worked as a Director at PwC, led the New Zealand office of boutique global consultancy the Behavioural Insights Team, and has extensive senior public sector experience across Treasury and Defence.

Luke is a senior leader within the Sharesies Business team and the chief executive of their Orchestra solution. Maria is a Senior Associate in the financial services team at MinterEllisonRuddWatts. She has particular expertise in financial services regulation, and advises on a range of issues related to offering securities and operating financial services or financial advisory businesses in New Zealand.

Maria started her legal career with another top tier New Zealand law firm, before working in offshore funds and banking for Babbé, a Guernsey law firm.

Maria works extensively with retail and wholesale fund managers, trustee companies, insurers, and other major financial institutions. She also supports numerous overseas clients with their regulatory obligations (including in relation to applicable exemptions) under New Zealand financial services law. Maria advises on all aspects of the Financial Markets Conduct Act (FMCA) and the suite of financial services legislation generally. Her FMCA expertise includes discretionary investment management services, managed investment schemes, and the financial advice regime under the Act. As Head of Industry Engagement at Partners Life, Mark’s role includes developing strategies to help financial advice providers understand and meet the requirements of the financial advice regime. Previously, Mark worked in intelligence at the Financial Markets Authority, where he drove the project reviewing replacement business in life insurance, which won an innovation award from the NZ Institute of Intelligence Professionals.

Mark Williamson has been employed by the New Zealand Defence Force since Nov 2005. In 2016, he was appointed NZDF Benefits Manager which includes responsibility for the NZDF Force Financial Hub, an internet portal providing a suite of financially related benefits to Defence community members, including families and Veterans.

Benefits include three staff savings schemes within excess of $700m invested, a full range of life and other insurances as well as comprehensive financial capability training programmes run in conjunction with the NZ Retirement Commission. Prior to becoming an MP Nicola held a number of senior management roles at New Zealand dairy co-operative Fonterra. Her work at Fonterra included leadership of the business’s global trade strategy team, permanent membership of the global incident management team, operational management of Fonterra-owned farms and work on a number of major projects alongside Fonterra’s global customers, manufacturing teams and farmer shareholders. Nicola also served on the boards of Export NZ and policy think-tank the New Zealand Initiative.

Richard is the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Services Council – New Zealand. Ruth Riviere, Country Manager New Zealand and Pacific Islands, Mastercard, brings her global experience to deliver some of the best solutions for both businesses and consumers. Ruth joined the global technology company in the payments industry in 2012. She has had various roles across Mastercard’s UK business, including driving digital sales and managing strategy and operations as the Chief of Staff for Ann Cairns, President of International Markets.

Financial inclusion to drive sustainable economic growth is one of Ruth’s passions. Before being appointed Country Manager, she was Director of Social Impact at the Mastercard Centre for Inclusive Growth, where she designed and directed the Centre’s global philanthropic programme work to support sustainable economic growth and financial inclusion. This included programmes in Indonesia, Romania, Mexico, Egypt, Rwanda, Nigeria and the US.

Samantha first arrived in New Zealand at the age of 7 with her parents and sister from the UK. She is a dual New Zealand / UK national. She grew up in Christchurch and attended Christchurch Girls’ High School before attending the University of Canterbury (B.Com (Econ) 1987) and Victoria University of Wellington (BCA. Hons (Econ) 1988).

She joined the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as an economist in 1988. In 1993 she moved to London to attend the London School of Economics where she was awarded an MSc in Economics. In 1995 she joined the Financial Services Authority in London (now the Financial Conduct Authority) which was responsible for the prudential and conduct of business regulation of the UK financial markets. She served successively as an Economist, a Supervisor in the Markets and Exchanges Division and a Manager in Conduct of Business Regulation.

Between 2005 and 2009, Samantha was a Director at the London Investment Banking Association where she worked on behalf of investment banks to develop and implement strategic advocacy programmes with the UK, EU and other national governments and national and international regulatory bodies. In 2009 Samantha took her regulatory knowledge and skills from the financial to the legal sector when she was appointed as an Executive Director at the Solicitors Regulation Authority with responsibility for leading the SRA’s work to transform the regulation of solicitors. This was the most significant element of the transformation of the legal services market in England and Wales enabled by the UK Legal Services Act 2007. It included implementing a new regulatory regime allowing for non-lawyer investment into, and ownership and control of law firms.

2014 saw Samantha return to financial services when she was appointed Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission. Samantha led the prudential and conduct regulation of a complex financial services sector that primarily exports financial services and which represents around 25% of Gibraltar’s economy.

This period was characterised by the significant global and EU regulatory reform in the wake of the 2007/08 financial crisis. Between 2014 and 2019 the GFSC secured the confidence of governments and regulators in key export markets that Gibraltar was implementing these reforms in substance as well as form.

During this period the Commission also developed and implemented the first comprehensive international regulatory regime for firms using distributed ledger technology to hold and transfer value. These successes required strong connections with regulators in other markets, particularly in the UK and Europe but also further afield. They also saw the Commission expand substantially in terms of staffing and capability.

Between 2018 and 2019 Samantha, with the support and approval of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission’s Board, served as a member of PwC (UK)’s Public Interest Body, responsible for independent oversight of PwC (UK)’s approach to protecting the public interest in its activities in the UK economy. Samantha stood down from this body on her appointment as Chief Executive of the Business Banking Resolution Service (BBRS) in November 2019.

As CEO of the BBRS, Samantha was appointed to lead the establishment of a non-statutory alternative dispute resolution scheme for banks and their larger SME customers. The scheme was a response to concerns, which began to surface as a result of the financial crisis, over the way banks had treated their SME customers. Because the scheme did not have statutory backing, the task involved complex negotiations with banks and the SME sector, and attracted close political and regulatory scrutiny. The scheme was launched in February 2021 with business body and political cross-party support in all nations of the UK. Having led the establishment of the BBRS, Samantha stood down to take a planned break, including taking time to pursue her interest in theatre.

When not regulating financial and professional services Samantha tries to find time for her passion for the theatre. Wherever in the world she has lived and worked, she has involved herself with theatre groups, acting, producing, governance and many other of the wide variety of roles needed to support live theatre. In her younger years, this included Wellington and Canterbury Repertory theatres. Samantha has three children who are at university in the UK.

As Head of Regulatory Affairs for Fidelity Life, Sam is responsible for maintaining relationships with regulators, policy makers and industry stakeholders and supports the business’ response to regulatory change.

Sam has over 11 years’ experience in the financial services sector in legal, regulatory and management roles - most recently as ASB Bank’s Head of Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs and prior to that at Sovereign (now AIA). Sam is passionate about building trust in the life insurance industry to help more kiwis access protection to enjoy a more rewarding life.

Sarah is an experienced lawyer, Licensed Independent Trustee and Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors. She currently holds a number of directorships in the financial services area and acts as a licensed independent trustee for several of those boards.

Sarah has a broad range of legal experience, predominantly in in-house roles. She headed up the legal team at New Zealand Post for 8 years and now works with Juno Legal providing advisory, coaching and legal services centred on in-house legal functions.

Shane is a Senior Underwriting Consultant with Swiss Re Australia / New Zealand with a focus on cross functional stakeholder risk advice on underwriting philosophy, automation, innovation, and product development.

His career spans 25+ years across the reinsurance / insurance markets. He has been a member of local senior management executive teams via his Chief Underwriter and Claims Manager roles during his career.

He is an active participant and risk advocate in key industry bodies and represented the Life Ins. industry on the Australian Federal Government's Human Genetics Advisory Committee (HGAC) from 2009 - 2012.

Shane has been published in numerous national and international industry journals. He has presented at major industry conferences such as the FSC Annual Life Conference, Australian Institute of Actuaries Summit and the ALUCA conference.

He is a Fellow- ALUCA, Senior Associate- ANZIIF, Associate- Academy Life Underwriting (with distinction) and has a Diploma in Health Counselling. Shane also holds a Diploma in Theology and is a trained school chaplain.

Simone is Assistant Governor and General Manager of Strategy, Governance, and Sustainability at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. She is responsible for the Bank’s strategic planning and performance, enterprise delivery, communications, governance, and internal audit. Simone is also responsible for leading and co-ordinating bank-wide strategies including Climate Change, Te Ao Māori and South Pacific.

Dr Stephen Child, Chief Medical Officer, provides clinical oversight and is responsible for health technology assessment at Southern Cross Health Society. Stephen is a member of the Medical Council of New Zealand (Council) and previous roles have included Chair of the New Zealand Medical Association, DHB National Workforce Strategy Group member, the Minister of Health’s Medical Training Board member, Northern Clinical Training Network Board member, and Health Workforce New Zealand Clinical Advisor.

A recipient of the NZMA 2018 Fellowship award, Stephen continues to make an impact in the health sector. He is particularly committed to exploring the relationship between public and private healthcare with an interest in how technology will continue to change the delivery and practice of medicine.

Steve Grant is responsible for the superannuation administration line of business at MJW.

Steve has been with MJW since 2000 and seen them through significant growth in the restricted scheme administration space. Steve is passionate about these Restricted Workplace Savings schemes and ensuring their existence in the Financial Markets Conduct Act world as a viable retirement savings benefit sitting alongside KiwiSaver.

Steve is a member of the Workplace Savings committee of the Financial Services Council.

Susan Taylor is the Financial Ombudsman and Chief Executive Officer of Financial Services Complaints Ltd (FSCL). FSCL has over 7,000 financial service providers, including several thousand financial advisers, as scheme participants.

FSCL investigates complaints made by consumers against FSCL scheme participants. As the Ombudsman, Susan is the decision-maker on complaints and has the power to make binding decisions up to the sum of $350,000 where a complaint is upheld, and a direct financial loss has been suffered by the consumer.

Susan has over 25 years’ experience in dispute resolution in the financial services industry and has presented at financial industry and consumer conferences both in New Zealand and overseas.

Susan is a qualified lawyer and, prior to joining FSCL, was the Deputy Banking Ombudsman.

Susan is also a public member of the Advertising Standards Appeal Board and a trustee of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation.

Tim is a leading commercial lawyer, who established Chapman Tripp’s Financial Services team.

Tim is sought after for his commercial and practical expertise, problem solving abilities, and in-depth legal and regulatory knowledge, particularly in the financial services, investment products, insurance and banking sectors. Paul is the General Manager Strategic Developments at ProCare in Auckland. ProCare is New Zealand’s largest primary health network, supporting 850,000 patients across a network of 170 general practices.

Originally a clinical pharmacist; over the last 25 years Paul has designed and led clinical programmes to improve health outcomes across the ProCare network and in some instances nationally. Paul has a strong interest in the design of health systems and supporting technology infrastructure and has deep understanding of quality improvement through innovation and change.

Simon Bridges is a New Zealand leader and household name given his time in politics and his high media profile over many years.

Rachel Smalley has spent more than two decades working across all media platforms – digital, television, radio and print. The majority of her career has been in broadcasting, working as a Foreign Correspondent, Senior Anchor and Producer for a number of international and domestic TV news channels.

She was based in Europe for several years reporting on globally significant events including political elections in France and Britain, and was in Washington D.C in 2008 reporting on Barack Obama’s historic election to the White House. Her career has taken her to Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America, including assignments in Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, South Sudan, Niger and South Africa.

Rachel now works in a strategic communications and storytelling capacity for Sherson Willis. She also dedicates time to her passion project, The Medicine Gap, which is a storytelling platform that profiles the impact of our unfunded medicines crisis.

Murray is responsible for Milford’s Retail business, including the Milford KiwiSaver Plan’s strategic growth, service, and client experience. He also oversees Milford’s Intermediary and Institutional distribution. He is passionate about helping New Zealanders access the products, services, and information they need to help them achieve the retirement they dream of.
Murray is a member of the Milford Executive Leadership Team. Simon Power is CEO of Fisher Funds and is responsible for the strategic direction and overall day-to-day management of the business. He has significant experience at senior levels in government, banking, and media.

Simon practiced as a lawyer for a short time before entering parliament as the MP for Rangitīkei in 1999 and holding that seat until 2011. During his time in parliament, he served as Minister for Justice, Commerce, State Owned Enterprises and Associate Minister of Finance between 2008 and 2011.

He entered the finance and banking sector in 2012, holding several roles on the Westpac NZ

Harry joined Guardian Trust in 2005 and has a strong background in financial analysis. Harry specialises in funds management, superannuation (including KiwiSaver), debt securities, structured finance and non-bank deposit takers.

Harry holds a Bachelor of Commerce (major in Economics and International Business) from the University of Auckland and a New Zealand Diploma in Business from the Auckland University of Technology.

Matthew joined the Corporate Trustee Services team in January 2005 and was appointed General Manager in 2018.

He has over 25 years’ experience in financial services, including banking, treasury, fund administration and operations, both in New Zealand and in the UK.

Matthew's key strengths are in operations management, strategy, people management, leadership, regulatory compliance and risk management.

Michelle is a Principal at Heathcote Investment Partners and a Licensed Independent Trustee.

She has held a number of senior leadership and management roles including Investec Bank (South Africa), Swiss Private Bank Guiness Mahon (Channel Islands), Goldman Sachs JBWere (Australia), General Manager and Head of Advice of Staples Rodway Asset Management Ltd (SRAM) and more recently as General Manager & Head of Advice at SBS Bank Wealth.

She is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors (IOD), an Accredited Investment Fiduciary, a Co-opted Committee Member of the Financial Services Council’s Empower Women (previously Women in Super) and a Committee Member of the FSC Workplace Savings Group.

She is passionate about encouraging financial education and improving retirement outcomes through good quality financial advice. In her free time, Michelle loves spending time with her family, enjoys supporting the arts, reading, and playing the odd game of golf.

Nick Tuffley was appointed as ASB’s Chief Economist in January 2007, having previously worked at Westpac and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. Nick studied at Canterbury University, graduating with a Master of Commerce in Economics.

He and the rest of the Economics team provide regular analysis of economic developments and the outlook through written publications and media comments. Their key objective is to help the bank’s clients make better-informed business and personal finance decisions. The Economics team has won 4 Consensus Economics Forecast Accuracy Awards for their NZ forecasts.

Shamubeel Eaqub is an experienced economist who makes economics easy. He is also an author, media commentator and a thought leading public speaker.

He has over two decades of experience as an economist in Wellington, Melbourne and Auckland in leading international banks and consultancy. He currently balances a portfolio of consulting, public speaking, governance and family duties.

He holds a BCOM with Honours in Economics from Lincoln University and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

He lives in Auckland with his wife and two sons.

Stephen joined ASB in September 2019 as General Counsel and leader of ASB’s Business Services Division. Stephen is a member of ASB’s Executive Leadership team and reports to the CEO.

Prior to his ASB role, Stephen was based in the United Kingdom as the General Counsel, EMEA, and International Head of Legal for the Japanese banking and financial services group Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG). Stephen worked for 11 years at Deutsche Bank and prior to that was a lawyer at the global law firm Clifford Chance.

Stephen gained his Bachelors of Commerce and Law degrees from the University of
Auckland including an accounting major. He is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High
Court of New Zealand and a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.

Mark is Swiss Re's Head of Life & Health for New Zealand and Head of Product & Pricing across Australia and New Zealand. In this role he is responsible for the performance of the New Zealand business, including strategy, client relationships, operations & regulation.

His Product and Pricing team partners with clients on the design, pricing and profitability of the retail and group insurance product lines across Australia and New Zealand. Prior to Swiss Re, he worked across primary life insurers and in consulting.

Gail is a Professor of Economics and Director of the NZ Policy Research Institute. Her research focusses on labour and health research themes, leading large-scale funded projects involving both academic and public sector collaborations.

In 2018, Professor Pacheco was awarded the NZIER Economics Award recognising outstanding contribution to the advancement of economics and its applications in NZ. She was also a Commissioner at the NZ Productivity Commission 2019-2022 and in 2019 also received the AUT Medal (AUT’s top award) for her research, scholarship and application of integrated data to help inform social policy and wellbeing.

As Chief Technology Officer, Marc’s role is to lead our technology teams and grow a culture of technical innovation and creativity, while delivering a stable platform to ensure AIA NZ can deliver our products and services and enable our strategic objectives.

Originally from the UK, Marc brings extensive experience in IT operations, software, and infrastructure delivery across organisations in London, New York, Auckland, and Singapore, most recently from Standard Chartered Bank Singapore, where he held the role of Global Head of Technology Operations.

Marc is married to a Kiwi and has four kids, and in his spare time he enjoys golfing, mountain biking, and tinkering with small software development projects at home. So far, he’s managed to get two of his daughters interested in coding.

As part of the AIA team, Marc is pleased to be able to connect his love for technology and health and wellbeing.

Nigel has over twenty-five years experience in financial services and funds management and has held leadership roles at Westpac NZ, OnePath (NZ) Limited, ANZ Funds Management and State Street New Zealand Limited.

Nigel is currently Co-Chair of the Financial Services Committee’s (FSC) Investment and KiwiSaver CEO Forum and is an FSC Board member.

Simon Brown is co-CEO at Banqer, the financial education platform which has been used by over half a million Australasian school students.

His role leverages his passion for finance, technology, and education to support teachers in enhancing their students' financial literacy and overall wellbeing, making a positive impact on the world.

Steven is a longstanding compliance professional with upstanding integrity. He has been employed at the FMA and the Canadian Securities Regulator, IIROC. He has four years’ experience working in areas related to FAA at a large NZ Financial Services Company. Furthermore, he has 7 years’ experience working in both big banks and boutique firms in Canada.

Through Steven’s career he has had oversight of over more than 100 Adviser Businesses. Matt is a strategic and people-oriented leader with an entrepreneurial spirit and over 15 years of diverse experience across B2C businesses facing disruption or significant regulatory change. His experience in the financial services sector and consumer banking ranges from being part of a startup through to working within an established ASX listed company.

Prior to his role at Revolut, Matt has held the positions of Head of Retail Banking and Group CFO at the Bank of Queensland, and Managing Director of Virgin Money Australia.

An expert in financial services laws, Penny advises extensively on the full range of legislation affecting financial service providers, such as fund managers, insurers, financial advisers, brokers, discretionary investment management service providers, derivatives issuers, non-bank deposit takers and payments system providers.

She counsels clients on the establishment, restructuring, distribution and compliance of financial products, including KiwiSaver. Penny also advises on mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructurings in the financial services industry. She is experienced in obtaining licenses, and has managed numerous applications to, and negotiations with supervisors and regulators, including the Financial Markets Authority, Takeovers Panel, NZX, Companies Office and Reserve Bank of New Zealand.

Penny works with a wide range of clients, from large institutions both locally and internationally to boutiques and start-ups. She is also a member of Chapman Tripp's Consulting advisory team.

She is recognised as a Leading Lawyer by Chambers Asia Pacific 2024 and as a Leading Individual by Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2024.

Campbell Mitchell joined Fidelity Life from Suncorp New Zealand in October 2023, bringing a background in both general and life insurance. As well as spending time as Acting CEO, his Executive experience at Suncorp spanned the customer, sales, claims, operations, marketing and corporate affairs functions.

Prior to insurance, Campbell had a successful career in the media industry, first as a journalist in New Zealand and the UK, before progressing into Executive roles in digital, marketing, sales and strategy with Fairfax Media / Stuff and NewsCorp in Australia.

Ralph is an internationally renowned expert in Open Banking Technical Standards and Trust Frameworks. He is editor of the Open Banking Security Profiles in the UK and Brazil and designed the Trust Framework platforms that sit at the heart of both ecosystems.  Ralph has led Raidiam’s delivery of Open Finance and Open Insurance in Brazil, amongst other national-level ecosystems.

On top of his technical accomplishments, Ralph has published thought leadership papers on Trust Frameworks for the UK’s Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), and on future standards for the Australian Banking Association. He represents Raidiam on numerous consumer, fintech and security advocacy and standards development bodies, including the OpenID Foundation (FAPI Working Group) and the Financial Data and Technology Association (FDATA). 

Russell has over 35 years’ experience in the life and wider financial services sector including GM-level roles for marketing and strategy. He has held Director roles in distribution businesses. More recently Russell has successfully founded Chatswood Consulting Limited, Quality Product Research (Quotemonster), and Advicebridge. Russell was awarded the FSC Shaping the Future Award in 2017 for consistently demonstrating industry leadership, proactively advocating for market change and a future focus.

In 2022, Russell was awarded the FSC Chair’s Award for Service to the Industry, recognising his contribution to the advancement, promotion and improvement of the financial services industry in NZ.

With over 17 years of experience working in payments across the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand, Shaun has built and led high-growth payment companies from startups to publicly listed organisations. He is a seasoned financial services entrepreneur and professional director with expertise in building and scaling regulated and unregulated solutions for enterprise and early-stage startups. Shaun has a passion for unlocking revenue with seamless customer experiences and is currently focused on delivering new and modern payment experiences across the Insurance sector with Simfuni.

Alongside his role as CEO and Founder of Simfuni Shaun sit on the board of New Zealand largest venture capital fund Ice house Ventures and Beauty memberships startup Aglow.

Nick's career in insurance spans 4 decades across global markets, most notably in the UK, Australia and recently as an independent consultant in New Zealand. He has held a variety of senior roles in both industry and in public policy.

Industry roles include senior product and marketing positions in the UK and Australia. Public policy roles include senior roles at the FSC Australia, the Association of British Insurers (ABI), Insurance Europe, and the International Longevity Centre UK - a think-tank based in the House of Lords advising the British Government on the wider implications of demographic change.

Nick is therefore ideally placed to comment on successful propositions from other markets and opportunities arising from changing demographics.

Rebecca Kingi is an enrolled barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and subject matter expert in modern slavery. After commencing a legal career working in employment law, health and safety and commercial litigation, Rebecca worked as a human rights practitioner in the UK where she provided legal representation to survivors of labour exploitation, human trafficking and human rights abuses. She has subsequently held senior policy and advocacy roles, providing advice to various governments and stakeholders on legislation and broader efforts to address modern slavery and human rights issues.

Prior to joining ANZ as ‘ESG Initiatives Lead’ she worked for the New Zealand government, representing New Zealand at related United Nations fora and providing subject matter expertise and capacity building to support government activities to combat human trafficking and modern slavery. Her role at ANZ includes driving, delivering and communicating ANZ’s ESG work, and providing leadership on ‘S’ initiatives and goals.

Pushpa is the Director of the NZ Financial Education and Research at Massey University. Dr Wood was appointed as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the Queen’s 90^th Birthday Honours List for 2016 for her services to financial literacy and interfaith relations. She is the first person in the country to be awarded such an honour for services to interfaith relations and financial literacy. She is also the first Indian woman in the country to be awarded with such a high honour and in two areas.

She has extensive experience in developing teaching and learning resources, training and workforce development, and stakeholder relationship management. She is regarded one of the key academics involved in developing resources for financial literacy and building capability of financial literacy educators and providers of financial capability services.

Pushpa also specialises in Hindi language and literature and her PhD thesis combined her Hindi language expertise with the religious dimensions of medieval India. She acts as an expert witness for the crown in Indian culture, customs, and beliefs. Pushpa is passionate about breaking down gender and cultural barriers in the workforce along with empowering women to reach their potential in the financial capability sector.

Vanja joined Guardian Trust in 2009 with a background as a financial services lawyer, practising in New Zealand and overseas. Vanja was a Senior Associate with a leading New Zealand law firm and has over 20 years of experience in financial services, including four years with a fund manager. Vanja has extensive experience in securities law and funds management, with a particular interest in KiwiSaver.

Vanja holds a Bachelor of Laws degree with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts degree, both from the University of Auckland. Vanja was an elected Workplace Savings NZ Councillor from 2014 – 2019, serving as Deputy Chair from 2016. Vanja continues her industry focus working with the Financial Services Council and is also a member of the New Zealand Law Society.

Mary Jo Vergara joined the Kiwibank economics team in 2019 and is responsible for producing economic forecasts and regular economic commentary.

Mary Jo has a keen interest in how the Kiwi economy fits within the global landscape. Her areas of interest include most things macroeconomics and financial markets. Prior to joining Kiwibank, Mary Jo worked in economic consulting as a research analyst following five years of university study. Mary Jo holds a Master’s in Economics from the University of Auckland.

Steve has had a substantial influence on the NZ life advice and product scene, including by advocating the treatment of the financial costs of terminal illness and serious trauma events as separate needs and championing several new products to market, most notably, standalone Terminal Illness Cover and Severe Trauma Cover. Both products continue to allow the evolution and improvement of advice and cost-effective client solutions.

Steve has always had a passion for helping advisers become better skilled at giving advice and reducing their advice risk. He is currently providing FAPS and advisers with independent product, professional, and advice development. He lives in Auckland with his wife Natasha and son Richard.

James Blair is the Wealth Director at Lighthouse Financial. Lighthouse has Accountants, Mortgage Brokers, Financial Advisers and property experts. They have 4,000 clients around the country and their purpose is to help kiwis secure their financial future.

Shaun is a father, partner, musician, gardener, sometimes surfer and organisational leader – he also lives with bipolar disorder. His professional passion is promoting a holistic response to mental health- particularly the things that people can do in their day to day lives to uplift their mental wellbeing - whether they are recovering from a time of mental distress, managing a long-term condition, or maintaining positive mental health.

Shaun has worked in social and health services for over 30 years. With degrees in business and community work, he has held four other CEO positions in not-for-profit organisations, addressing issues from care and protection of children to HIV and AIDS. He has also been a management consultant to public hospitals, developed a successful training business and been a policy advisor to former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark. He has served on commercial and not-for-profit boards and on a range of government working parties and advisory groups.

Jonathan Taylor is Managing Director and Founder of OMNIMax Software Solutions.  Twenty years ago, he saw the need for software solutions to help financial advisers digitise their advice processes and connect with clients in a visual way.

Traditionally from a background of investment including KiwiSaver, OMNIMax has evolved and expanded its tools to accommodate other advice streams such as mortgage and insurance. 

Michael Hewes is Director Deposit Taking, Insurance and Advice, leading the FMA’s largest licenced sector. Michael will be familiar to many as he spent 20 years in the insurance industry prior to joining the FMA 8.5 years ago.

During his time at FMA Michael has co-led the Conduct and Culture reviews, various thematic studies on the insurance sector, and was involved with FSLAA implementation workstreams. Currently he is focused on CoFI implementation and ensuring the advice sector is embedding itself under the new regime.

Natalie leads DLA Piper’s Australian white-collar crime and investigations practice. She is a leading regulatory and investigations expert in Australia with over 20 years’ experience working across the Asia Pacific Region and specialising in ESG related matters concerning:

Human Rights and Modern Slavery;
Anti-Bribery and Corruption;
Sanctions; and
Money Laundering.

She provides clients with expertise in the running complex white-collar crime and regulatory and internal investigations that are of high reputation importance. She also has considerable experience government-related inquires. In addition to her contentious regulatory practice, Natalie is a trusted advisor to the boards and executive leadership teams of large national and multinational clients advising on how to proactively deal with a range of ESG issues concerning corporate reputation and risk management, particularly with respect to cross-border and international business in emerging markets.

She is qualified to practise law in Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand having lived and worked in all three jurisdictions. Her cross-border experience means that she has unique insight into the complexities of doing business in the Asia Pacific region.

She has been recognised for her work in the areas of white-collar crime and regulatory compliance and investigations by legal directories such as Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 and Doyle’s Guide.

Prue founded SHIFT in 2017. Her goal – to create a positive, disruptive force in the legal services market and, through modern work practices, offer clients and lawyers more flexibility, value and better work and life outcomes. Prue is an advocate of the legal profession offering different pathways for lawyers.

She has been practising law since being admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2001. She has experience across a wide range of areas, in particular financial services law. Prue worked in major law firms, boutique firms and has also worked as an in-house lawyer at major banks.

Prue is active in the industry and community and is passionate about empowering women to participate in the workforce on their terms. She is a co-founder of various initiatives including Future Law Aotearoa Group, a group of alternative legal service providers, and RegTech NZ, which aims to provide a place for collaboration in using technology to assist with regulatory compliance obligations. These groups provide networking opportunities and support for different sectors within the community. SHIFT also supports The Women’s Fund.

Prue was a former board member of Women in Super (since August 2020) and has worked with Tracey Cross and the FSC over the past few years, to lead the merger of Women in Super into the Financial Services Council, now known as the Empower Women initiative. Prue is passionate about DEI, and SHIFT recently partnered with Cogo Research Agency to carry out insights research across two issues, women in senior roles in the financial services industry, and Māori representation in the financial services industry, for INFINZ.

Outside of work, Prue loves to spend time with family, enjoys the arts and being in the outdoors, in particular ocean swimming year-round. She has three young children with her husband Luke and enjoys a catch up over coffee with friends.

Sam is the General Manager of Whai Rawa, which is the Ngāi Tahu investment scheme. He is of Ngāi Tahu descent (Te Rūnanga o Moeraki, Te Rūnanga o Taumutu) and he is very passionate about encouraging and assisting saving and financial education amongst Ngāi Tahu Whānui. He brings a pragmatic and solution focused approach, and he leans on his broad financial services experience, where his focus has been on wealth management.

Prior to joining Whai Rawa, he has worked for more than 15 years across financial services and professional services organisations, where he has held roles in product management, project management and governance, risk and compliance.

Ralph Stewart is the founder and managing director of Lifetime Retirement Income, who have an affinity and passion for developing transparent, low-cost, high-value retirement income solutions that New Zealand retirees can have confidence in, including their recently released debt-free home equity release product.

With three decades of experience in New Zealand’s financial services sector, Ralph’s journey includes senior leadership roles at Tower Insurance and chairmanship of Spicers Wealth Management Limited. Ralph was CEO of AXA Insurance and Asset Management in New Zealand for 10 years, following this he was CEO at Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC). He is currently a Director of the Police Welfare Fund and the Police Health Care Plan Limited.

Sharon brings over 25 years of financial services experience, specializing in investments and wealth management. As a transformation leader, she has held senior roles with major New Zealand financial services companies, overseeing the development and market strategies of two leading KiwiSaver schemes and multiple retail investment offers. Her expertise spans a range of disciplines, reflecting her commitment to simplifying the delivery of financial services to empower New Zealanders to achieve their financial ambitions.

Sharon is actively involved in industry initiatives, having served as an elected Workplace Savings NZ Councillor from 2017 to 2019 and continuing her contributions with the Financial Services Council.

Dr Young is a General Physician at Auckland City Hospital. He is a medical graduate of the University of Otago and was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship which enabled him to graduate from the University of Oxford with a PhD in Molecular Genetics. He has been a Consultant Physician in the Department of Medicine, Auckland City Hospital for the last 23 years and Associate Professor, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Auckland. Currently he lectures to medical students and post-graduate science students.

His research and clinical interests focus on the primary prevention and early diagnosis of the smoking related respiratory diseases COPD and lung cancer. Dr Young has been an advisor to the insurance industry for the last 25 years. Dr. Robert's comments and presentation at the FSC Conference, 2024 reflect his personal opinion and do not represent those from Auckland City Hospital or the University of Auckland.

Tom Bayliss is a Principal Adviser, Financial Inclusion at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Te Pūtea Matua. He helped to develop RBNZ’s Approach to Financial Inclusion, which was released last year at the Central Bank Network for Indigenous Inclusion Symposium. His work is focused on supporting an inclusive financial system where New Zealanders have reasonable access to products and services that meet their needs. Tom’s focus this year has been conducting research on access to bank accounts and working with financial entities to support inclusive customer on-boarding practices.

He is a passionate scuba diver and spends a lot of spare time exploring the Island Bay Taputeranga Marine Reserve in Wellington. Tom also connects to Tauranga Moana and Ngai Te Ahi hapū on his dad’s side and is learning Te Reo Māori through Te Wananga o Aotearoa. He has previously worked for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and was previously worked at the International Labour Organisation at the United Nations Office for Asia Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand. He has a Master's in Science from the University of Auckland.

Samira is a senior associate in the national private wealth team at Dentons New Zealand and has completed a STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates.

She specialises in complex and high value personal asset planning and structuring, wealth and succession planning, the law and administration of trusts and charities, relationship property matters and dispute resolution.

Samira regularly advises domestic and international high net worth individuals and families, foreign investors, new migrants, legal and accounting firms, trustees and other fiduciaries, financial institutions and family offices.

Hon. David Seymour is the Minister for Regulation and the Associate Minister of Health (Pharmac), Finance, and Education (Partnership Schools). He was first elected to Parliament as MP for Epsom in 2014, at which point he became Leader of the ACT Party.

David has degrees from the University of Auckland in electrical engineering and philosophy.

Before politics, he worked as an electrical engineer in New Zealand and for private sector think tanks in Canada.

Chloe is a Partner and the Chief People Officer at PwC New Zealand where she is responsible for driving the people-related strategic priorities of the firm, focusing on ensuring a unique people experience and an inclusive and diverse culture.

She specialises in providing governance, risk and compliance related services to clients in a range of industries. She loves learning about her clients businesses and helping them to think differently about their risks and understand the connection between risk and strategy.

She regularly works with Executive teams and Boards to help them understand their strategic risks and define risk appetite. She has led a number of large scale regulatory driven risk engagements and has a particular focus on conduct risk and risk culture.

Chloe joined PwC in Australia as a graduate. She worked in Sydney for over 10 years in our risk consulting practice before returning to Auckland in 2014. During her time in Australia, she led the delivery of a number of large-scale regulatory risk engagements.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends outdoors at playgrounds, parks or beaches.

Julie is the founder and CEO of KidsCan, which she set up from her own garage in 2005.

She regularly speaks about leadership and innovation in the not-for-profit sector at business and community forums. As well as being a tireless advocate for children in need, she has a passion for helping animals. She started Pet Refuge using money left to her by her late parents, aiming to remove one of the barriers people face when trying to escape domestic abuse. The shelter gives a temporary home to animals while their owners move to a safe environment and is the first of its kind in New Zealand.

In 2008, she was recognised with a Sir Peter Blake Leadership Award, and in 2013 was named Next magazine’s Woman of the Year. In 2015 she was named as a finalist for Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year – the second time her contribution has been recognised by the national award.

Lee has helped the financial services industry strategically navigate the rapid pace of change in technology for more than 25 years, both internationally and here in New Zealand. He started his first software company before leaving university (writing a policy management platform for an insurance company) and then went on to tackle digital and core banking transformation, managed fund innovations and then superannuation (including working with the FSC while it was still called the ISI to help shape the industry standards behind KiwiSaver and PIE).

Today, Lee is PwC's Chief Transformation Architect, a role which sees him work with clients to help set up their transformation projects for success, and also requires him to keep across the latest technologies which may help organisations springboard to the future. Cloud, AI and Open Standards are just some of the areas which are making a big impact at the moment.

Chris Hutton is a dedicated Product Manager and Underwriter with 10 years of experience in the Life, Health, and Disability insurance industry in New Zealand. Chris is passionate about providing solutions to some of the most complex issues in the industry, including Genetics, Mental Health, Product sustainability and increasing New Zealand's financial literacy.

His commitment to the community includes involvement in several Non-Profit Organizations, most notably his role as the previous Chair of the Life & Disability Underwriting and Claims Association of Auckland (LADUCA).

He hopes to provide positive change in the NZ Life & Health insurance industry by being a continuing and vocal advocate in the financial services sector, where he continues to drive innovation in Product design and risk assessment.

Sarah has worked either in or with insurers for the past 16 years and is currently the Head of Iwi Initiatives at nib.

Working alongside rōpū partners, in particular nib’s foundation hapū client Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, she is focused on improving Māori health outcomes through Toi Ora – an ecosystem of health insurance, data, navigation and proactive healthcare.

As Head of Advice for Consilium, Ben works with over 140 independent financial advice firms across New Zealand, helping to grow and develop their ideal advice practice. He has worked with Consilium since its inception in 2012, which now holds over $8 billion in funds under administration. With over 20 years’ experience in financial services, he has held roles including Chief Operations Officer of Index Funds Advisers (US) and various economic consulting roles in the US and abroad. He was the founding chair and is a long-time member of the Consilium Investment Committee.

He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and a prolific author writing many articles and whitepapers, and recently published his first book, A Little Book of Financial Wisdom — Clarity in the midst of a financial crisis, a collection of articles written during the COVID-19 crisis.

Andrew has a 40-year career in real estate and asset management that spans the globe. He has worked in Australia, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and London. Over this time, he has advised on projects in more than 30 countries and continues to be actively involved in multiple jurisdictions around the world.

He was the founding partner and co-chairman of Alvarium from 2009. After successfully growing the global family office with 12 branches worldwide, he moved to Auckland where he started Alvarium Investments New Zealand (AINZ) in 2017. He is currently the Executive Director of Alvarium and oversees its real estate interests.

Titahi Bay, Porirua has been home to Barbara, her husband Chris (Ngā Puhi) and their eight children for the last 12 years. She’s privileged to be the MP for Mana and for the opportunity to serve the place she loves.

She was the Minister of Revenue, Economic Development, Internal Affairs, and Pacific Peoples, as well as Associate Minister of Finance, Cyclone Recovery and Housing during the 53rd Government.

Before Parliament, Barbara acted as a senior advisor to Ministers under successive governments and was a key contributor to the Government’s law reforms following the March 15 Terror Attacks. She’s proud of her work in helping to make Aotearoa New Zealand a safer place. Barbara was also heavily involved in the Government’s tax, social policy, small business, and economic responses to COVID-19.

Cam started AIM in response to a niche in the market. He believes that businesses need to be better supported in the face of the range of compliance responsibilities that are expected. He is a NZ Police qualified detective, with expertise across a full range of criminal offending and international investigations. Moving on from this to roles with NZ Immigration he worked with a range of agencies to successfully prosecute offences including people trafficking. This background highlighted the risk to business reputation where supply chains are not routinely verified and/or audited.

As an experience investigator he works closely with high profile law firms and various legislative compliance areas including immigration, motor vehicle traders, financial control, criminal activity, etc. He understands people and is an outstanding interviewer. Abi Curtis holds the position of Senior Responsible Investment Manager in Oceania for the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). The PRI is the world’s leading proponent of responsible investment. It works to understand the investment implications of environmental, social and governance factors and to support its international network of investor signatories in incorporating these factors into their investment and ownership decisions. The PRI believes that an economically efficient, sustainable global financial system is a necessity for long-term value creation. Such a system will reward long-term, responsible investment and benefit the environment and society as a whole.

Before joining the PRI, Abi built an extensive career in Australian superannuation and investment platforms, focusing on innovative product development/management as well as strategic account management.

Sydney is on a mission to advance ESG and sustainability in Aotearoa New Zealand. With years of global experience in markets leading in ESG integration, she is focused on exchanging best practices with Kiwi investors and businesses to strive for a future-proof economy.

Shelley has over 25 years of experience in marketing and sustainability, the majority of which has involved working in the financial services industry both in NZ and the UK. She joined ASB in 2010.

She has a passion for community impact and purpose led work. Prior to her current role Shelley managed ASB's portfolio of community partnerships. She has also played a key role in delivering ASB's ESG priorities and provided leadership on social initiatives.

Her recent focus has been on youth financial literacy and in particular the Getwise programme in schools. She is enthusiastic about helping young people develop good money behaviours early on and build the strong foundations they need to succeed.

As Chief Product & Strategy Officer, he leads the Product, Pricing, Investments and Strategy teams at AIA NZ.

He is passionate about the role of insurance in positively influencing the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders.

Prior to joining AIA NZ, Alex was Principal – Head of Insurance Consulting & Actuarial Services at KPMG New Zealand after moving from KPMG South Africa. He has previously held leadership roles at Different Life, been CEO at KGA Life in South Africa and held senior roles at Aegon, KPMG Netherlands and Hollard Insurance.

He is a current Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and New Zealand Society of Actuaries. He holds dormant Fellow memberships of the Actuarial  Society of South Africa and Royal Dutch Actuarial Association and has a Management certification from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.

Originally from South Africa, Alex relocated to New Zealand with his family in 2022. Outside of work, he enjoys being active with his family and participating in almost any form of sport, but particularly the multifaceted challenge of adventure racing. More regularly, he can be found attempting to improve on his orienteering, golf, mountain biking and chess skills.

Yasmin Frazer is the Learning Lead at Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission. She’s responsible for setting the learning development and direction across Sorted’s programmes, with a particular focus on Te whai hua – kia ora, Sorted in Schools, a free, government-funded financial capability programme taught in secondary schools and kura. She has a diverse background in the education sector, with leadership experience in curriculum development and design, change management and professional development.

She has lead marking for NCEA on a national level and was a lead writer in the development of an Aotearoa Histories programme launched in 2022. In addition to Yasmin’s educational roles, she’s a small business owner, and uses her skills to support the leadership and personal development of the young people she employs.

Originally a finance lawyer, Caroline has extensive experience in law, technology and innovation in New Zealand and London. She has led and been involved in various projects including new business models and processes, implementing technology solutions, and coordinating training to develop digital capabilities.

She has recently completed the AI Governance Professional training from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, is a member of the AI Forum’s AI Governance Working Group and has been involved in numerous trials of AI tools.

After 12 years of working for Saatchi & Saatchi around the world, Mark has recently returned home to Aotearoa to lead Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand. Mark has since reinvented the company with his focus around Cultural Creativity and belief that Nothing is impossible. Along his journey Mark has led Saatchi & Saatchi Melbourne to Asia Pacific Agency of the year, enabled various Cannes Grand Prix and D&AD winning ideas to flourish, and always partnered deeply and optimistically with clients to achieve their greatest ambitions.

As Fidelity Life’s Head of Solutions, Michelle oversees the company’s adviser channel solutions, professional development programmes including Adviser edge and Fidelity Life’s in-house adviser team.

Michelle joined Fidelity Life from AIA NZ where she held roles including Senior Manager AIA Vitality, Business Regulatory Lead and Integration Lead. She was previously Sovereign’s Head of Business Performance and Head of Learning and Development prior to its acquisition by AIA. She is also an experienced business owner having founded and run a large-scale commercial fitout organisation for ten years before being called back into the world of insurance.

Oliver is the Senior Human Rights Advisor to the Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner at Te Kāhui Tika Tangata Human Rights Commission. Oliver has a background in employment law.

Recently the Equal Employment Opportunities team have completed reports on exploitation of temporary migrant workers in Aotearoa and have been strong advocates for addressing gender and ethnic pay inequities. They also recently collaborated with KPMG to produce a report on the economic costs of workplace bullying for employers.

Jody is the Marketing & Growth Lead at Emerge, NZ's first digital-first business banking alternative for SMEs.

Having worked in startups & scaleups all over the globe, he excels in helping brands find product-market fit and turn their vision into a reality.

Kendall Flutey (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Kahungunu) is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Banqer, financial education technology used by more than 500,000 Australasian students.

She has a background in accounting, and software development. With Banqer at the crossroads of these two industries, Kendall enjoys the new challenge that comes with growing a mission driven impact business, where she can seek to make a difference in our communities. She also holds a number of governance roles, including as a board member of the New Zealand Financial Markets Authority, and Whai Rawa.

Jeanette Kreft is the Managing Director of The Compliance Company.

She specialises in advising businesses operating in the financial services industry on how to effectively comply with their regulatory obligations in a way that adds value to their business.

Kevin was formerly a Partner at PwC with leadership roles across the Asia Pacific region. His competencies are in governance, strategy and change management across a range of industry sectors and countries. More recently Kevin led the governance and strategy practice at EY Advisory before leaving to launch his own consulting practice My Governance. He currently serves on a range of commercial and NFP boards.

He has previous experience with Foodstuffs, Zespri and Mitre10 and currently works with a number of Co-Operatives in the retail sector.

Fun fact: Kevin is a former Rugby Referee, and Past President of the Auckland Irish Society.
